Approach and objectives of software development in the B-QualMT project

Lusatia and other post-mining landscapes are often affected by complex hydrogeological challenges. However, at the same time, they offer a wide range of potential uses. A detailed understanding of the subsurface is required in order to exploit these in the best possible way with precise groundwater and geological models playing a decisive role here.
Geological models are generally based on exploration data, in particular drilling profiles. These contain valuable information on petrographic (lithological) and stratigraphic properties that are used for modeling geological structures. However, the interpretation of this data is prone to error, as it is influenced by numerous factors - such as the time of recording, the exploration target or the level of knowledge of the operator. Given the large number of boreholes that are drilled in the course of exploration, distinguishing between high-quality and inadequate drilling profiles is a time-consuming challenge.
This is exactly where our project comes in: We are developing a user-friendly software tool that automatically filters boreholes according to qualitative criteria. Users can easily upload and process borehole data and compare it with existing geological models. In this way, the tool facilitates data preparation for modeling and improves the quality of geological analyses.
Goals/Milestones
- Implementation of the backend and frontend structures for an intuitive user interface
- Testing the performance and user-friendliness in practice
- Adaptation and transfer of functionality to other test areas
