With the BGR Geoportal, national and international geospecialist data from the fields of soil, geochemistry, geology, geophysics, groundwater and raw materials as well as BGR scientific publications can be searched, viewed and downloaded.

For this purpose, the geoportal is divided into a search and a viewing component.

The search contains information (metadata) on data sets that are created and maintained by the various BGR departments. The BGR products essentially cover the topics of geology, geophysics, soil science, mineral and energy resources as well as groundwater and engineering geology.

With the viewer, the geodata services offered by the BGR of various map bases from several subject areas can be viewed and combined with each other. In addition, the geodata for the maps or sections of the current representation can be downloaded if interested.

The Germany-wide, Europe-wide and global overview maps are available in different scales from 1:250,000. Depending on the map series, the visible scale range varies.
The flexible layout automatically adapts to different end devices such as tablets and smartphones. Only the URL to the geoviewer has to be called up on the device.

Note on accessibility
Unfortunately, map applications per se are not 100% barrier-free, as people with severe visual impairments in particular have difficulty recognising the representations and retrieving the map information. The control on the PC requires the use of a mouse or touch gestures on tablets and smartphones.
