As part of the “Energy” development cooperation program, the TC measure is intended to contribute to the improved use of geothermal potential in Indonesia and thus promote electrification and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The relevant state authorities are to be strengthened in the development of smaller, needs-based geothermal projects (<10 MW), which are currently neither in the focus of private developers nor actively funded by the state. The quality and quantity of data on the geothermal resource required for site development, which are provided by the Ministry of Energy and the subordinate Geological Agency, is to be improved in order to minimize the risk of exploration drilling.

The project partner is the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with its relevant departments and the Geological Agency, which is mandated with the preliminary exploration of geothermal sites.

The state energy supplier PLN, whose state mission is to increase the rate of electrification in Indonesia, is also seen as a close cooperation partner.

Synergy effects with other BGR TC projects in Africa and Central America should be achieved through a planned South-South exchange.

The duration is from 1/2021 – 12/2026 with project funds of 3 million.
